I thought that by knowing the topic well I could focus more on some other aspects of the speech. By choosing Financial Aid as my topic I knew I had the information down, so I focused more on the delivery of my speech and the media presentation.
During my speech i was in action mode. I did have a few anxieties during the speech, I did wonder if certain people were critiquing me harshly or negatively, but for the most part I was focusing on getting it done.
After the speech I was relieved, but a little nervous because I was too dependent on my notecards, and I was wondering how that would affect my grade. This will encourage me to work on the speech more.
I think there were some things I did correctly. I thoroughly researched my topic and made sure my speech was well written. My outline was concise and effective and I cited all my sources accurately. I practiced my speech by saying it out loud and even practiced in front of my roommate.
There was a major part that I could have done better on, the delivery of my speech. Going into my speech I was not feeling very confident in my memorization skills. I wrote out my entire speech on my note cards, which was a big fault. Instead of only using the notecards as a reference, it became a big crutch for me.
My eye contact suffered and I was hung up on presenting the speech word for word.
